Deterrent Weapons Senior Consultant

You will be joining our expert team supporting a range of high-profile and complex projects across the UK’s Defence Nuclear Enterprise (DNE). The nature of our support is highly varied, including systems engineering, programme management and organisational aspects that support the UK’s continuous at sea deterrent (CASD).

This is a challenging and multi-faceted role that will draw upon your significant experience across the DNE. Key aspects of the role include:

  • Provision of complex and insightful advice to senior leaders within the DNE. We will ask you to play to your strengths, drawing on and offering the value of your experience, whether it is technical or programmatic.
  • Leadership of consultants from across our business to deliver successfully against our clients’ requirements. You will be using your understanding of the client’s requirement and the unique context of the DNE to direct and guide our team’s work including coaching and mentoring of junior colleagues and members of our client’s team in order to transfer knowledge and build capacity across the DNE.
  • Excellent project and programme management skills enabling our clients to deliver their programmes successfully. This will typically include complex stakeholder engagement across the DNE (and beyond) and enabling successful delivery of projects and programmes on time and on cost.

Discharging this role successfully will require the following attributes.

  • Thought leadership – The experience and insight to lead, develop and articulate a clear vision to solve complex problems within the DNE, addressing systems engineering, programme delivery and investment decisions.
  • Highly effective engagement with stakeholders of all levels across the Defence Nuclear Enterprise.
  • The ability to drive, facilitate and lead effective collaboration across multi-disciplined teams.
  • Familiarity and understanding of the US/UK relationship in the context of the DNE and delivery of CASD.

The successful applicant will meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Comprehensive understanding of the operations, design, maintenance, and interfaces with Equipment Authorities; Platform Authorities and the US Department of Defence or similar in-depth experience of other aspects of the UK’s Defence Nuclear Enterprise.
  • Knowledge of the regulatory bodies and structures relevant to the DNE.
  • Knowledge of some/ all of the management systems and approaches that are relevant to the scope of the role (such as POSMS/ POEMS/ ASEMS and MAID).
  • Proven technical leadership and/or programme management skills.
  • Project management skills and accredited, current Project Management (e.g. APM, Prince 2) qualification.

 

It is to your advantage if you meet any or all the following additional requirements:

  • Chartered status in a relevant field.
  • Experience working within the Defence Nuclear Enterprise.
  • Degree qualified.
  • Current Developed Vetting status.
