The Candidate

This position requires a passion for creating exceptional customer and user experiences, as well as the right mix of creative thinking, technical know-how and great communication skills. A deep understanding of UX, usability principles and desktop & browser-based technologies are essential. The ideal candidate will both design and maintain the user experience of the products as new products are created and new features are added. They will work closely with the UX Researcher and other business unit stakeholders to ensure the highest standards in user-centred design while developing a content strategy, gathering, and producing content, and participating in the development process.

 

The Role

The Positioning Technology (PT) business unit is seeking an outstanding User Experience Designer who will be a core member of PT’s UK Engineering team and be supported by an already established UX team that is based in the US, reporting to both the PT and UX Engineering/Design team heads. 

You will be responsible for the UI/UX and Usability of PT products with the remit for coherence and modernisation of the UX for the next generation Position Navigation & Timing (PNT) Simulation & Assurance solutions. The businesses PT market leading product lines, provide innovative, purpose-built testing solutions and assurance solutions for PNT. They are an innovative group that is focused on ease-of-use and leveraging user-centred design principles to surface powerful breakthrough technologies.

We are looking for a self-starter, an individual who can run with a project with minimal assistance with the ability to ask the right questions as needed and dig into the technology space.

 

Duties:

• Function as a user advocate by understanding the end user's goals, anticipating usability problems, and designing simple, clean, elegant design solutions that help them succeed. 

• Work closely with the PT Engineering team, UX researcher, other UX team members, product managers, and engineering subject matter experts to understand both the front-end UI and the underlying technology. 

• Work closely with your UX researcher to ensure there is a solid understanding of your user’s goals and needs, including, but not limited to user task analysis, persona and scenario development, needs/requirements gathering, user testing, jobs to be done goal creation… etc.. 

• Gather feature requirements and translate them into simple user-friendly product components.  

• Create wireframe/prototype concepts that incorporate information architecture, content strategy, and contextual entry points within the application. 

• Validate your design solutions through moderated and unmoderated user testing. 

• Work with PT Engineers to create the applications final look and feel using the design system.  

• Present design concepts to PT/UX-Design Team and product stakeholders.

• Adhere to PT Engineering design and implementation process. 

• Evangelize user experience and user-centred design methodologies. 

• Be prepared to enhance the team’s user-centred design practices and processes as needed

 

Requirements:

• Education: Minimum of BSc in Human-Computer Interaction, related field, or equivalent years of experience. MSc/PhD in Human-Computer Interaction or related field is preferred.

• Experience: Minimum of 8+ years' experience with User-centred Design principles, Information Architecture, and user research. 

• Significant experience with User-centred Design principles, Information Architecture and user research is preferred
