Senior Frontend Engineer

What you'll be doing

As a Senior Frontend Engineer you will be joining one of our delivery teams or our product teams, with the opportunity to move across teams. Our delivery teams are responsible for visualising insights from the output of our data scientists, whilst our product team builds the technologies underpinning these projects. As a rapidly growing organisation, roles are dynamic and subject to change. Your role will evolve alongside business needs, but you can expect your key responsibilities to include:

  • Lead a team of frontend engineers
  • Hire into an existing team of frontend engineers or build an entirely new team
  • Prioritisation, planning, coordination and communication of frontend features within the frontend team but also to external stakeholders
  • Maintain the best practices and standards common to the whole frontend capacity of Faculty
  • Training, mentoring and onboarding of new frontend engineers
  • Create learning resources to be used across the team your are leading
  • Setting up and maintaining the development and deployment infrastructure for the frontend team you are a part of
  • Work with our data scientists, data engineers, UI and UX designers to build client facing products to bring Faculty's machine learning work to life
  • Be involved from with the product life cycle from idea generation to shipping
  • Actively look out for the best open source technologies to be used in development of Faculty's client facing products
  • Be the go to authority for frontend software engineering within your team
  • Create and maintain reusable component libraries that are used in projects company wide

Now for the practical part - to succeed in this role:

  • You have experience building scalable, maintainable, and tested web applications in React/Redux.
  • You have experience building backend APIs with Node JS.
  • You are fluent in ES6 JavaScript, HTML, CSS3, and related web technologies.
  • You have experience writing TypeScript or other typed languages.
  • You have knowledge of data visualisation techniques and implementations, such as d3.
  • You write code with security in mind, sticking to best practices and keeping up to date with changes in the field.
  • You have an intuitive grasp of design and UX practices.
  • You build and design systems for use across multiple platforms.
  • You should have an understanding of build tools, such as Webpack and Babel.
  • You have an understanding of the evolving JavaScript ecosystem.
  • You have experience refactoring code where necessary.
  • You’re able to work independently, while being able to collaborate with the team on broader features.
