Trainee Health Physics Surveyor
We are currently seeking enthusiastic candidates to join our Health Physics Surveyor Trainee programme for various sites around the UK. As a trainee, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and knowledge in the field of radiation protection. Initial training will be at our base in Milton before being deployed to site, where you will learn on-the-job, working side by side with seasoned Health Physics professionals.
This comprehensive 24-month training programme is tailored to develop your technical skills and industry knowledge, which as you develop your own portfolio of experiences will eventually lead you to completing an NVQ Level 2 in Radiation Protection. To ensure your success, we will be there for you every step of the way, with support and mentorship from your dedicated programme trainer.
As a Health Physics Surveyor, you will provide radiological monitoring services and provide professional advice to our customers within the nuclear industry to protect people, plant and environment from the adverse effects of ionising radiation and contamination. You will do this by using specialist instruments to carry out monitoring of people, by taking surface and airborne contamination levels, and radiation dose rates, recording the readings detected and responding accordingly.
The key accountabilities are:
- Carrying out routine contamination / radiation surveys and reporting results.
- Supporting emergency response plans to provide contingency arrangements.
- Monitoring and assessment of airborne contamination levels.
- Calculation and control of dose uptake in the working environment.
- Control and use of radiation protection instrumentation.
- Monitoring compliance with regulations ensuring that safe working conditions are maintained.

Candidates must meet the following criteria:
- 18 years old or over to meet the requirements of a Classified Worker
- Sound basic education (GCSE’s)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Commitment to uphold high standards and ethical conduct.
- Ability to adapt.
- Undertake a medical to become a classified radiation worker.
- Obtain appropriate security clearance.
- Happy to enter contamination and radiation-controlled areas and wear PPE/RPE
- Ability to travel across the UK and potentially overseas.
